This is my first post playing a Solo game, and one of my ttrpg goals this is year is to play more Solo/Duet games! I first encountered solo games last year around this time when Citizen Sleeper Spindlejack came out. I played through it and had a blast. Later that year, I played Substratum Protocol by Pandion Games, but I haven't finished yet, so the Solo Series is starting with No Tell Motel, a mystery game by Bannerless Games.
The game uses a 52 playing card deck, a d6, and some handouts. Bannerless was thoughtful enough to provide fillable PDF copies of the handouts for free. On top of this, there's an incredible playlist made to listen to as you play.
No-Tell Motel asks you to separate the deck into face cards and numbers. The face cards are both hotel rooms and guests, while the numbers tie to prompts, conflicts, and motives. A d6 is used to determine the number of guests checking in and out throughout the night. As more motives are marked against specific hotel guests, you can start to piece together a narrative for what happened until you eventually make a claim for who the murderer is.
Bannerless Games also provides an instructional video of how to play which is brief and excellent.
